For runners

How does Racespot work on race day?

You set up your race in the app and share your link in the group chat. In the start pen you tap I'm in the start pen and put your phone away. Racespot sees when you actually start running, shares your location from then on, plays cheers at the kilometre your supporters picked, and stops on its own after the finish.

Do I need to press start and stop?

No. The clock only starts once you've been running for about a minute without stopping, and is then set back to the moment you really started. So shuffling forward in the start pen doesn't count. After the finish, Racespot stops as soon as you stop running. And just in case, there's a button to start your time by hand.

Do I need a sports watch?

No. Racespot uses your iPhone's GPS, even with the screen locked in your pocket, armband or running belt. You can still wear your watch for your own times. An Apple Watch app and a Garmin data screen are on the way, for Pro.

How do I hear the cheers?

Through your earbuds or your phone's speaker, even with the screen locked and even while you're listening to music. You hear them at exactly the kilometre your supporter picked. Need some quiet? Turn the sound off during the race. The cheers are kept, and you can listen back after the finish.

How much battery does it use?

Racespot uses your GPS for the whole race and sends your location every 10 seconds, which uses power. Start with a full battery. Running a marathon with music, or using an older iPhone? Bring a small power bank. If your phone still dies, everything up to that moment is saved.

What if I have bad signal on the way?

Racespot stores your points on your phone and sends them as soon as you have signal again. Your supporters then see you in the right place straight away, and your route stays complete. Signal is often poor in a busy start pen; the app simply waits patiently.

My race isn't listed. Now what?

Create it yourself in the app with your own name, date and distance. Or request it, and we'll add it with the official course, so other runners can pick it too.

For supporters

Do my supporters need an app?

No. They open your link in the browser on their phone, tablet or computer. No account, no download, and Android works too.

What can supporters do?

Follow you live on the map with your time, distance and pace. See when you'll pass by. Share their spot along the route, so you hear who's there. And record a cheer of up to 15 seconds for the kilometre they pick, even from the sofa at home.

Can they follow several runners at once?

Yes. Everyone is on one map, each in their own colour, with the leader on top. Running different distances on the same day? You can follow them together too, each with their own start time and course.

How often does the map refresh?

Every 10 seconds. Enough to see exactly when you're coming, so your supporters are ready with their sign in time.

Privacy and price

Who can see me?

Only people with your link. Your location is only shared once you start, and stops after the finish. Supporters choose for themselves whether you, other viewers or both can see their spot along the route.

How much does Racespot cost?

Watching and cheering is always free for supporters. As a runner you start for free, with 3 cheers per race. Pro costs €24.99 a year with the first week free, or €6.99 for one race with the Race Pass. You can cancel any time.

Does it work on Android?

The app for runners is for iPhone. Supporters can watch on any phone or computer, so on Android too.

I organise a race. Can it be added?

Gladly. Email us at info@racespot.app. We'll add your race with its course to the race list, so runners can pick it with one tap.
